Introduction Statement:
Kiowa, Kansas (pop. 964; $3.2 million budget; 13 FTE’s), is a friendly, close-knit community located ninety miles southwest of Wichita. The city is seeking a Chief of Police to maintain our safe and community-oriented City plus good relations with citizens.
The City operates under a six-member Mayor-Council form of government, and manages electric, water, and wastewater utilities; provides solid waste disposal and recycling service; operates a library; and police department. The police chief supervises all law enforcement activities; is responsible for the enforcement of all applicable laws and ordinances. A history of administrative duties, supervisory positions, budgeting, and policy making is preferred.
The governing body is looking for candidates who can showcase a history of professionalism and a strong work ethic. Must possess excellent public relations and personnel management skills. Applicants should have an associate degree in criminal justice or a related field, a Bachelors is preferred. At least five years of law enforcement experience is required (10 years preferred). No history of Brady/Giglio background will be considered.
