Introduction Statement:

The Lieutenant will work closely with the Chief of Police to plan, organize, direct and coordinate the activities of the police department to meet both the current and future needs of the community. He/she will coordinate activities with those of other City departments; and provide highly responsible and technical assistance to the Chief of Police. This is a non-exempt position regarding the provisions of the FLSA The ideal Police Lieutenant will demonstrate the highest level of integrity, and work effectively to continuously improve police operations and public safety. The candidate will be open and approachable, a clear communicator, and visible in the community. He/she will be skilled at utilizing best practices in community-oriented policing, crime prevention, investigations and youth and school involvement. The ideal candidate will earn the respect of his/her officers and civilian staff, fellow Spring Hill employees, elected officials, members of the public, and colleagues in the law enforcement community. He/she will be professional with experience in areas of police operations, especially community policing, media relations, patrol, and investigations. He/she will have a working knowledge of records and property management.


Full Time


Salary range begins at $29.93/hr. to $40.40/hr. Starting wage is dependent on qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires eight years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience in all major phases of police work and five years in a supervisory position. Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Criminology, Police Science, Criminal Justice, Public Administration or other relevant field. Experience may substitute for degree at a one to one ratio. Requires the possession of a valid driver’s license in good standing; must be certified by Kansas Law Enforcement Training Commission. Must successfully pass a polygraph exam, police background check, drug screen and physical exam prior to employment.
