This position reports directly to the Chief of Police and oversees the Investigations Division comprised of a Lieutenant, Detective Sgt and a Special Victims Unit Sgt.
A prime responsibility for this position will be to serve as the Task Force Commander for the newly formed Kansas Combined Anti-Drug Taskforce (K-CAT). This new taskforce will be staffed by the Commander, a Parsons PD Detective and a Deputy from the Labette County Sheriff’s Office (LBSO). The Labette County Attorney’s Office provides legal resources for the group.
The K-CAT is governed by an Executive Board currently comprised of the Sheriff, County Attorney and Parsons Police Chief.
The Parsons Police Department is a full-service community oriented police agency staffed by 26 officers, 5 dispatch staff, and 2 support staff along with a Animal Control Officer and serves a rural community of over 11,000. Officer staffing includes a Patrol Division of 4 Sgts, 4 Cpls and 12 Officers; Investigations; Administrative Services Unit with 1 Sgt, an Animal Control Officer and a full-time records/Evidence Tech. A Secondary PSAP Dispatch Center is staffed by a Civilian Supervisor and 4 Dispatchers. The agency handles over 17,000 total requests for service annually.
The Department is an evolving law enforcement agency that is in the process of engaging in a self-assessment process that is focused on updating the agency’s strategic plan. The agency embraces the philosophy of Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) and markets itself as a guardian agency first and an enforcement agency second.

Compensation and Benefits: The range of pay for this position is $26.25 hr, $4,550 month, $54,600 annually to a top step of $28.28 hr, $4,901 month, $58,822 annually. This is an overtime exempt salaried position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in law enforcement work. A Bachelors degree is required for this position.
PREFERRED: Extensive senior level police experience to include command and/or executive assignments to the rank of Chief. Major crimes, taskforce expertise, a deep range of experience in both patrol and investigations. A graduate (Master’s degree is highly desirable). Extensive documented police training is a plus and graduation from a regional Command College, the Southern Police Institute, Northwestern University School of Command or the FBI Academy is highly desirable.

Must acquire a valid Kansas driver's license once hired. Required to qualify at least annually with a firearm.
Must be certified by the Kansas Commission on Peace Officers' Standards and Training (KS·CPOST) if the applicant is an out of state candidate, they must either be eligible to apply for reciprocity through KLETC or attend the basic academy to be certified as a police officer in Kansas.
